The Severn Town Club (STC) of Anne Arundel County is affiliated with the Maryland Federation of Women's Clubs (MFWC) and the General Federation of Women's Clubs, Inc. (GFWC), the largest service organization of women in the world.  The club annually sponsors with the Maryland Federation a local, district, and state Youth Art Competition which is open to middle and high school students through their school art classes.  There are three (3) categories: High School Art, Middle School Art, and Photography/Computer Art.  The art is judged beginning at the local level (STC Club) with winners proceeding to the District then State levels.  The 2017 Art Judge was Realist Oil Painter, Joan Essex Johnson.  She chose eighteen (entries) for the Maryland Hall Exhibit - Place winners and Honorable Mention.  Five entries were added for Exhibit interest by the Committee.

The Severn Town Club is located in the Southern District of the MFWC, and its sixty-six (66) entries this year came from six (6) middle and high schools in the southern Anne Arundel County with the support of the Art Coordinator of Anne Arundel County Public Schools (AACPS) and the AACPS Middle and High School Art Teachers.  Nine (9) Place award winners (1st, 2nd, & 3rd in 3 categories) from the STC-sponsored schools proceeded to District winning one 2nd Place, one 3rd Place, one Honorable Mention.  The two Place winners proceeded to the State competition with one winning 3rd Place in the Middle School Art Category.  Separate monetary awards are made by The STC, MFWC Southern-Baltimore District, and by the statewide MFWC.
