Cindy Winnick

Visual Arts

Cindy Winnick moved to Annapolis in December 2013 after having painted, taught and studied art in Washington, DC, New York, Paris, Moscow, Ho Chi Minh City and Berlin.  Cindy began painting in Paris in the late 1980’s and then studied in New York at the Art Student’s League and National Academy of Design.   Cindy’s travels and fascination with people have informed her work.  Two stints in Paris produced paintings set in the Paris metro.  The energy and light of southern Vietnam inspired images of Saigon street life, and the friezes of Berlin’s Pergamon Museum prompted Cindy to begin a series on classical themes.

Cindy has taught drawing and painting to children and adults for over ten years.  She emphasizes strong observational drawing skills and an understanding of color, materials and technique to develop students’ ability to realize their artistic ideas.

Artist Statement

I am a contemporary realist.  Accurate drawing and rich color are the basis of my work and many of my paintings have a narrative.  I also love the formal aspects of painting and like to bring texture, color and abstract shapes into my work.  After more than 30 years as an expatriate, I have found that an outsider often sees the beauty, the humor or irony in the everyday which an insider accepts without reflection.  I have sought to communicate that vision in my paintings of the Paris metro, Italian characters and Vietnamese street life.  Finally settling in Annapolis, I am ready to synthesize my experiences and make the city and its artistic community my home.

Cindy Winnick is represented by La Petite Galerie in Annapolis and by Xanadu Gallery in Scottsdale, Arizona.
