Act II: Production Wing Comes Online

Act II – Production Wing Comes On Line

The first addition to Maryland Hall’s building since its constructions in 1932 – the Production Wing – is complete!  The Production Wing combines public spaces such as a small lobby and restrooms for the Bowen Theatre with behind-the-scenes spaces that support performances on stage including a new vitally-needed freight elevator and loading dock.  Robust storage spaces and the elevator allow our technical crews to move freight, instruments (including grand pianos), and sets to and from the stage more efficiently, saving time and money while ensuring safety. Some minor finish work is still to be completed but the results are impressive and the facility has already been used for performances in June.

(Pictured L):  This exterior image shows the new wing and the Murals that were painted by ArtReach students. (Pictured R):  Lobby on the ground floor for use by the Bowen Theatre which is behind the large doors to the left.  The preservation and display of the existing brickwork on the outside of the building was part of the wing’s design.

(Pictured Center):  Back of house storage space on the ground floor.  This space will soon contain equipment and instruments that were previously stored on stage and throughout other places in the building.  (Pictured R): The view from two-sided freight elevator to the stage.
